Spring is here FINALLY!

Now that we are into April, it truly looks like Spring is FINALLY here in NE Ohio!
Granted, we are still seeing some predicted night time lows in the 30s - but the daytime highs are now forecast for the 50s - woot!

The onset of spring means we will get back to some serious geocaching, like a slumbering grizzly bear, Team Grey Cat has been pretty slow in the caching department over the winter months.

I believe we had 22 finds between our first 100 in the middle of last September New Years Eve of last year. We reached the next mile stone - 200 finds this past Sunday - we were 20 finds short of 200 and we were determined to reach it.

While the terrain was somewhat better than snow and ice - caching in mud really sucks.
I can definitely verify that my new boots are waterproof - just like the label says, since we spent most of the day (it seems) slogging through very, very soggy graveyards.

We are learning to be quite brazen in our retrieval of caches in public places, two weekends ago we were in the parking lot of a local Taco Bell trying to get up the nerve to retrieve a cache from a nearby light post - when a carload of fellow cachers pulls up next to us - and they begin tromping up the snow in full view of everyone in the restaurant.

Light post caches are very common, most people are unaware that the metal or fiberglass box-like covers on the base of the light posts actually lift up to reveal the mounting bolts beneath.
There is ample room next to the bolt heads under the cover for the placement of a micro cache - normally a 35mm film container.

One of our cache hunts on Sunday took us to a small park that shared a driveway with salt depot for the city. We actually did not set foot on the salt depot property - but when we pulled out of the parkinglot, a police car began following us - and hung onto us like glue while we headed for the next cache.

I was actually hoping he'd pull us over, so I could explain to him what we were doing - as it is - he's probably still wondering why we were driving so slow going down his streets (they were deserted) while zeroing in on the next cache location.

That reminds me, I need to get a nice geocaching window sticker to put on the back of the HHR - I have seen them on other vehicles - and they are a good way to tell friendly cachers from muggles.

It took us 125 days to find out first 100 caches, and almost 200 days to find our second 100 caches, but we also had a 79 days straight of zero finds.

Our current goal is to now reach 300 caches by the beginning of Summer (as in the Solstice) and I think we can do it....
