Wheel of the Seasons is a rollin'

The wheel of the seasons just keeps rolling along - looking out of the windows, the trees have lost their leaves, and the green grass is covered by snow. The trees are still and silent, most of the songbirds have flown to warmer climes.

Living in Ohio and putting up with the Winter months really makes one appreciate the Spring, Summer and Fall months.

Our motorcycles are put away for the winter - although if we encounter some unseasonably warm weather, you can bet we will be dragging them out to take advantage of it :-)

You can approach the onset of Winter with depression, hate, resignation or apathy, I myself attempt to simply grin and bear it - no amount of wishing/cursing/gnashing of teeth is going to make it go away quicker - or even praying to your gods of choice for that matter.

Look on the bright side - there is ALWAYS a bright side - you do not have to cut the grass in the winter! If you live in Ohio like I do - you definitely do not have to worry about getting a sunburn!

Poison Ivy in the woods is now buried under layers of snow - and snow can actually make finding the elusive geocaches even easier - be sure to keep an eye out for geo-trails!

If Winter was not experienced, I probably would not appreciate the rebirth nature goes through in the Spring as much. In about four months (gods willing) the trees that are currently barren of green will once again start to fill with small blossoms and eventually full suits of foliage.

This time of year always strikes me as being a stressful one - as the Winter Solstice nears closer and closer, people are rushing about to buy the latest toys for their children - waiting in long lines and getting up early to ensure they are at the stores before their neighbors. Anyone who works in retail can definitely attest to the stress - both for the shopkeepers and the shoppers.

Hmmm - maybe its not Winter Solstice that is the cause for all of this stress - but a certain unmentioned religious holiday which was plopped on top of the Solstice in a vain (and I mean Vain!) attempt to overshadow it.

Those of us who celebrate the Solstice, chuckle to ourselves when we hear indignant folks complaining that people are forgetting the real reason for the season. They themselves are actually johnny-come-lately's where the real reason is concerned.

In case you are not seeing where I am taking this - the real reason for the season - is the Winter Solstice! Yep, believe it or not, the Solstice was celebrated long before this time of year became known for a certain mythological being....

The Solstice is now only a couple days away, which means the days will FINALLY reverse the trend that began at the beginning of Summer - they will become LONGER again!
That is truly a reason for celebration - a reason that has been celebrated by people for ages long past.

Next summer, when you are mowing your lawns - just think to yourself "It could be snowing" and that should cheer you right up :-)

I'd like to wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season - no matter what holidays you celebrate - even if it is only New Years Day and please, take time out from life to stop and smell the roses.
